Lena Freimüller Invites to Enjoy Art at Galerie3 in Klagenfurt

Lena Freimüller, a culture and art expert, university lecturer, peace researcher and psychologist returned to Carinthia after many years of studying, travelling and working all over the world. Now she runs the Galerie3 in Klagenfurt together with her mother, prepares jones forces with local cultural actors for collaborative projects and invites everyone to enjoy contemporary art.

If you are walking at the center of Klagenfurt, find a half an hour to visit the Gallery 3 on Alter Platz 25, 2nd floor, that offers the opportunity to see (free of charge) current exhibitions of modern art. The Galerie3 is an important place for culture, contemporary art and encounter in Klagenfurt for more than 20 years since Lenas Mother Renate Freimüller founded this cultural institution.

Lena grew up in Carinthia and is attached to the local traditions and food, the picturesque mountain landscape and especially the lake. After high school she left Kärnten to study, live and work in Vienna, New York City, Castellón de la Plana (Spain) and Cologne. “Originally I come from Psychology, Peace and Conflict Research and Cultural Studies and worked in various fields of social work, research and teaching. But I grew up with the gallery and always had a huge passion for contemporary art”, says Lena. “I have a lot of friends among artists, socially engaged and creative people all over the world. My travelling and work – in refugee projects, peace education and international university settings – made me love international atmospheres and multicultural diversity which gives me a special full feeling of life. I am a very curious person and an international group of people is a guarantee for learning new things, good exchange and interesting food”.

Bringing more international arts (and art brut) to Carinthia is also on Lenas agenda as well as strengthening the interaction with the arts and cultural scene in Vienna and other parts of Austria: “I like to present very up to date artistic positions combined with the well established gallery program, that has a focus on Carinthian art and painting. With my joining the family business I am bringing fresh ideas and I hope to introduce the gallery even more as a place for encounter, reflection, discussion and enjoyment of arts. My goal is to bring art closer to people, invite schools and new audiences, offer inclusive cultural work.”

Where does she find powers and inspiration? “Motherhood offers a lot of delights! With my son who is 5 years now, I rediscover Carinthia. My husband supports me in my activism and family business, is a great father and encourages me not to give up teaching and academia and continue doing all things at once. I love taking walks in the woods in the morning with my friend Barbara, the landlady of a fantastic local Restaurant called Zockelwirt in Pörtschach (zockelwirt) before we both start our workday. Spending a lot of time outdoors, breathing, moving and using all senses puts me in good spirits.”
