The CIC didn't yet exist when my family and I moved to Carinthia in 2008, but my former boss, Dr. Reinhard Iro, was one of its founding members. Through him I regularly heard about the CIC and for that reason my family and I were present when the CIC's kick-off-meeting took place in Villach in 2009 and we also joined some of the following events.

When, like me, you move internationally with the family, then child-care, the educational system and job opportunities for your accompanying partner are your top priorities.

From the start, my wife and I were interested in a bilingual education for our children. It was, therefore, a nice coincidence that the CIC was in negotiations with the Diakonie de La Tour of Carinthia, whose Montessori school in Klagenfurt-Harbach, which was at that time in the process of being set up, was considered as the possible location for an international school.

During an information evening organised by the CIC in the summer of 2010, my wife and I were able to get a good idea of the school and the institution responsible for it and registered our children at this school right away. Those first efforts by the CIC didn't lead to the foundation of the International School Carinthia (ISC). Instead, it created Austria's first bilingual elementary Montessori school, the Lernraum-Montessorischule de La Tour where, since the academic year of 2011/2012, English is taught as a second equivalent language. The school wasn't just ideal for our children. My wife, who is an English teacher, was able to take up work there again as well. (Photo Stefano Lunardi | Interview Birgit Stegbauer)
